News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Return to Panem
The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a future-set scene, given that the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This signifies the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
