Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
