Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they start the process of hiring a fresh manager.
O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham midfielder is out of work meaning the club would not need to provide any compensation.
