Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell such as this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
