The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
