The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked National Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The president stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the press. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to pause refugee claims and cease granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to visit the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
